Too much haze and too many early morning clouds this week unfortunately for any colorful Cherokee Sunrises. Still, it has been a wonderful, restorative week of relaxing in this quiet, lovely spot, taking a few hikes and exploring the area. It has also been the perfect escape from the heat, humidity, traffic and crowds at home in Hilton Head, SC as well as all the covid craziness.
John Muir, the famed naturalist, always comes to mind when I’m walking through the woods or hiking a mountain trail. He wrote extensively about the importance of forests and wild places and preserving them. One of his thoughts more than 100 years ago: “Thousands of tired, nerve-shaken, over-civilized people are beginning to find out that going to the mountains is going home; that wilderness is a necessity.” Also from Muir, along the same lines: “Keep close to nature’s heart…and break clear away once in a while, and climb a mountain or spend a week in the woods, wash your spirit clean.”
I couldn’t agree more. We are very fortunate and grateful for the time spent here after a particularly tiring and stressful week at home. Many thanks! Happy 4th of July - The Kings

This house has been AMAZING! We booked it a couple months ahead looking for a fun and adventurous trip and that is definitely what we got! We had three families with us and there was plenty of room! The kitchen was nice and roomy, but the VIEW!! The view was fantastic! You can see the Toccoa River from every part of the house. Even the view from the hot tub was amazing! The river was very cold but so fun to play in. The gazebo on the property was a great place to chill and talk; the fire pit was an wonderful place to get together, tell stories, and make s'mores. The stairs were a hike but definitely a good workout. There were many activities to do while staying here! We really recommend white water rafting! You have to do it! It is exhilirating and all the guides are amazing. The company we used was 'Rolling Thunder.' 10/10! We also really enjoyed the train ride, which stopped in McCaysville where we ate at 'The Copper Grill' (the grilled cheese BLT and cheese sticks were very good). The train was a relaxing eperience but I would advise you sit in the outside train cars because the inside cars are very cold. Also, tubing and kayaking down the river is another fun activity. Mercier's Orchards is definitely an aweseome experience as well. Lastly, though we didn't get to do this yet, we heard good things about going to 'The Swinging Bridge.' We enjoyed our first vacation together! The weather was amazing and the views were incredible. The scenery is so beautiful, and we loved walking around the area. The hot tub and fireplace were perfect and so cozy! We will be back! P.S. We're having a baby!!
